The RBL Paris Branch was shocked to see the fire in Notre Dame Cathedral. They have been holding Remembrance Services every year in the Cathedral since 1919. Our thoughts go out to the Cathedral Staff, the Archbishop of Paris, and the firefighters. This is so upsetting to see.
I have worked closely with the Paris branch and assisted to ensure initially the red ensign and then an actual MN Standard were presented and took part in the services at Notre Dame and other events. 2017 was the first time the Duster has ever appeared at the Notre Dame event. Merchant Navy Red Ensign in Notre Dame. 11/11/ 2017 Paris.Caroline Clopet RBL Paris branch. The first time the Duster has ever appeared at the Notre Dame event. Following the "Crossing of the Bar" of my late father, I gifted his red and white ensigns to a museum in Canada, a red ensign of the British Merchant Navy to the RBL Paris: 2017 the Red Duster took part in the 11/11/2017 Remembrance Service at Notre Dame for the first time and several old red dusters to a Barry Sea Scout group. An RNLI flag was probably a gift to my late father from Kinsale, Coutmacsherry (Southern Ireland) or Barry (Wales) and presented to Penarth RNLI. This was the about finding a good use / purpose to another item from my late fathers belongings. I am certain he would have approved. The RBL Paris branch was very pleased to have been given a South Wales (Barry & Penarth) Merchant Navy plaque. For the first time in history, the Merchant Navy was represented at the Ceremony in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on the 11th November 2017, alongside the Royal Navy, Army and RAF. With much thanks to the MN Barry Branch, Wales. Caroline Clopet
