May 2023 sees the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic
and Liverpool will be at the very centre of the international commemorations.

The turning point in the Battle of the Atlantic in the Allies' favour and in fact May 1943 is known as 'Black May' as the Kriegsmarine lost 41 U-boats that month, 25% of its operational fleet. Admiral Donitz recalled his U-boats and declared the battle lost, though they did return with new weapons and tactics and the fight would continue right through to May 1945.
