JJ lost his life in a tragic accident the family are vaguely aware from his discharge book of the circumstances, even when and the location, Still unknown is exactly where he was buried, hence no flowers on his grave and no chance to mourn.
James Joseph will not be mentioned in dispatches or be entitled to medals, lost to soon to be deemed a hero. Had his life not been taken away from him then, no doubt it may have occurred a little later. Like the many, I am certain – the thought of death would not have deterred him.
Like many Kinsale and Irish people, James Joseph Greenway left Ireland in the early 1930s and joined the Merchant Navy, settling in Barry.

For some it was the first time they had left their native town, and their families survived on the money they sent home. "Some settled in Barry and have families there today. We also further remember Nora (Greenway) Davies a daughter to Thomas, Sister of James Joseph, Nora was a Lady of Kinsale and a resident of both Barry, Wales and Moroopna, AUSTRALIA. LEST WE FORGET.
