Pos local press release:
Sea Sunday Barry Dock 2023.
Sea Sunday Barry Dock 2023.
Sea Sunday 2023: An annual remembering and tribute/commemoration of all those that went to sea in the service of their country, survived or sail today. It was wonderful to see so many different generations represented during the afternoon. Ensuring that those that paid the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. Fr. Christopher Seaton - Honorary chaplain to the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) Barry branch officiated at the Seafarer's Memorial (The Anchor) on Barry Waterfront on Sunday 16, July 2023, he mentioned the amasing effort and thanked the youngsters of the town from scout groups and all others involved in restoring the memorial in preparation for “Sea Sunday”. A reading by the Mayor: “By tradition this Sunday in July has been set aside in which we give thanks to God to remember and pray for seafarers’ and their families and give thanks for their lives and work in sometimes most difficult circumstances, fortitude and bravery in sailing the seas to bring goods to these shores and many other places throughout this world” “Let us now remember before god and commend to his sure keeping all those seafarers’ who went down to the sea in ships, never to return: those of we know and those whose memory we treasure and all those who have lived and died serving others”. Barry Coastguard attended mentioning, A time to Remember and Give Thanks to those that work at Sea, Those who rescue people in difficulty at Sea, and those that have been lost at sea. We Will Remember Them. Barry Dock RNLI reported, as some of our crew were paying their respects at the Sea Sunday service at the Seafarers Anchor Memorial in Barry, so our All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to a 31ft yacht that had suffered engine failure and was struggling to sail into Barry Harbour. The yacht was located just south of Barry's harbour entrance. With guidance given to the skipper, the yacht was able to sail into the harbour being escorted by the lifeboat. Each year in July, a blessing is given to those who work and volunteer at sea providing vital services and remembering those who have lost their lives at sea. proud to support our community alongside our colleagues from Barry Coastguard, National Coastwatch Institution and Maritime and Coastguard. The Exhortation was led by Joe Norton Chairperson Merchant Navy Association (Wales) Barry branch. Eternal father strong to save – the last post, Standards dipped and raised to Reveille. Laying of wreaths. National anthems: God Save the King and Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nahdau concluded this year’s tribute. Visitors from afar and both Barry and the Vale remembered not only those from the area during conflicts but those that also sailed from Barry never to return. A National Merchant Navy Day now takes place every year, Barry and the Vale are forever part of all. MN Day 3rd of September, Tribute, commemoration and remembrance will continue locally VIA: Barrian’s and the Vale. The local Merchant Navy Association thank you for attending in support of seafarers’ and their families throughout the world. A big thanks to all who took part on the day: the MNA, RBL, Coastguard, RNLI, all uniformed groups and especially you the public. Diolch Yn Fawr.
