Plaque unveiled to honour Merchant Seafarers 20th September 2011
MERCHANT seafarers who lost their lives in World Wars I and II after sailing from Penarth have been honoured, with the installation of a commemorative plaque at the Penarth end of the barrage.Following a few words by the mayor, his chaplain Reverend Malcolm Davies conducted a brief service before a reception was held at West House, where Jim Greenway - Chairman of the Merchant Navy Association, Barry Branch - presented the town mayor with a shield displaying the Merchant Navy Emblem. Cllr Ernest returned the gesture with a Town Council hand-painted plate. LINK
